Major workers in the Pheidole genus have heads that look too big for their body. The small ants (minor workers) are most likely the same species as the major worker.

Argy, the big headed one in the second picture is the soldier or major worker ant. It is amazing that it's the same species as the small ones.
Would the big-headed one be a 'soldier' ? (amazingly disproportionate!)
