Description:

deciduoous, large ornamental shrub, shedding bark, pink panicles of crinkly flowers in summer, small simple leaves beautiful oranges in fall, woody, multiple stems, leaves berries green and succulent at first, then ripening to dark brown or black dryness then splits along six or seven lines and releases numerous, small, winged seeds.

Habitat:

planted on urban school campus, full sun, drought tolerant

Notes:

not native but well adapted to this area
