Description:

This tiny crab is one of my favorite finds! Its bright blue eyes were really interesting, as were the spikes on the front and the back of its body.

Habitat:

Only a few feet from the water at the beach

Amazing find! Absolutely incredible. I believe it is a green crab (Carcinus maenas) in one of its first benthic instars.
I only saw it because it was crawling around near a shell I was photographing. I figured an ID would be hard, but I hoped maybe the spikes or the blue eyes would be distinctive. Perhaps not though. Thank you Ashley!
Such a shame this little guy went by unnoticed! Not sure how in the world you even saw this tiny of a critter! No clue if it has any chance of being ID being this small, but thank you so much for sharing! Never knew they looked like this at any life stage
Thank you so much armadeus! I have been searching, but still no ID yet
Absolutely incredible images Machi! That tiny, little crab has the most astonishing blue eyes...wow! Thank you for sharing and good luck with the ID :)
