It looks like deer tracks to me as well. Perhaps these are fawn tracks, which would account for the size. If you look at the lower print you can see the points of the hooves. It looks to me like there are three points, which would make sense if the deer was walking in its own tracks.
interesting. this print is even less than one toe's width of the other's I've seen! sorry I didn't mention that earlier.
We see that a lot in the mud and on the beach.
I suspect the sand was picked up by both parts of the deer hoof, making it look like a single toe.
