Field Notes

Description:

White and black patterned bodies with all-black heads. Deep red-black eyes. Thick black beak.

Habitat:

Lake mostly but they also come down a canal to fish when it is flooded at this time of year.

Notes:

These two are a mated pair that have lived and produced many chicks on this lake. The chicks stick around for a little bit but then move on, usually not longer than a year.
They travel everywhere together. Most of the time they dive intermittently to keep an eye on the area, especially when on the lake with boats.
