Field Notes

Description:

Gray-scaled fish with a lateral line of dark spots along its length. The eyes are amber and there appear to be two pairs of nostrils. It fed on aquatic vegetation in very shallow water in the afternoon.

Habitat:

Spotted in a non-tidal, freshwater marsh on the grounds of Tanglewood Nature Center.

Notes:

I observed a muskrat and many bird species in this marsh.

It is quite difficult, if not impossible, to get photos of fish in murky waters... Hope you can find a rock-lined and shallow freshwater body of water somewhere, or maybe a relatively clean river or pond.

Nice one Mauna. I'm trying to figure out how to get fish pictures here where the water is so murky. Hope someone can ID it for you.
