Description:

Average wingspan:1 3/8" - 2"
Colors:Orange, Brown, White
Other species that live with the silvery checker spot: Baltimore
Checker spots,Northern Crescents, and a Great Spangled Fritillary.
Symbiotic relationship:purple cone flower and other cone flowers. this is mutualism because the butterflies pollinate the flowers and the flowers give the butterfly nectar.
The dorsal view is pale yellow-orange with dark borders and markings. The hind wing has a white centered submarginal spots on both sides, dorsal and ventral. The hind wing is pale and has a white crescent at the margin. And this provides camouflage.
Butterflies mate through sexual reproduction, and mating begins when the male butterfly detects a female butterfly releasing pheromones at close range. If the female accepts the male, the male attaches to the female's abdomen, injecting a sperm packet into her stomach that she stores until she decides to lay eggs.

Habitat:

Their range consist of southern Canada south to Georgia and Texas, but does not occur in the Coastal Plains. Silvery Checker spots enjoy moist areas such as stream sides. They can also be seen in meadows and forest openings.They eat nectar, red clover, common milkweed, and dog bane. Birds, spiders, reptiles, other insects, and small mammals eat butterfly's.
