Field Notes

Description:

A magnificently territorial species, this butterfly can be difficult to capture not because it is not approachable, but the slightest intrusion of any other butterfly into its sight warrants an investigation and reprimand on the wing. This one took up post on me several times during my presence. I have even had them "attack" me before, dive bombing and "beating" me with their wings. I have yet to catch a decent open wing shot however, but rest assured the blue in its name describes vivid blue stripes on its topside.
