Field Notes

Description:

Medium to small-sized bird with black eyes and pinkish brown bill. That pictured appears to be a male, with a black head. Some females may have similar markings...but with a more grayish head, per the Sibley guide.

Habitat:

This bird was spotted in Pine Creek Canyon in the Spring Mountains in southern Nevada. The canyon has conifer and hardwood trees, adjacent to the Mojave Desert.
