Argy, the critter in the background is a Ailanthus Webworm Moth. I just posted a picture of it here: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/18872038
Sure Tom - I wasn't suggesting the same species or genus - just that you had the "?" after hepialidae .... actually I've been wondering about that black-headed, orange and green banded critter in the background too... have you got a separate shot of that?
Argy, I think it is a Hepialidae, just a different species than the Aussie one. Thanks for the comment from both Argy and masunya.
