Field Notes

Description:

Nymph, probably 2nd instar of Phasmid under the species, Phobaeticus foliatus. Phasmids under the genus Phobaeticus are very large (long) in nature of which one of the species, Phobaeticus chani holds the world record as the longest Phasmid at 567mm! The body measures 357mm though.

This one, Phobaeticus foliatus is rather unique as it has lobes on their legs, probably to camouflage well with the mossy environment, as in the pictures. The adults are rarely seen as they are more likely to be found in the Canopy top of the forest.

Habitat:

Endemic to Borneo

Notes:

New Organism to Project Noah.
This species was fairly recently described in 1995.
