Description:

Small hoverfly in flight, ca. 1 cm in length.

Syritta pipiens is a common species of hoverfly. It is called thick-legged hoverfly, from its distinctive broad hind femora in males. They are fast nimble fliers. Larvae feed in rotting organic matter. Adults feed on flowers nectar and pollen.

Habitat:

Spotted at the margins of a deciduous forest, oak and chestnut trees.
