Field Notes

Description:

This African lion can be many colors. It can be golden brown, or even white. The weight of the males are usually between 150-250kg, and the females are usually between 110-182kg. Another species that lives in the same area as this lion is the Katanga lion which lives in southwest Africa. The males of this species weigh between 140-242kg, and females 105-170kg. This type of lion doesn't have many symbiosis relationships. But they do have a interspecies relationship. Lions usually hunt in pack or alone but that doesn't always mean they get food. They fight over the same resources, with themselves or other packs of lions. They really strong leg muscles which help them chase after their prey. They also have very strong jaws to help them eat large prey. They have also developed long sharp claws to hunt their prey. They also have rough tongues to help them peel off the skin of their prey. Some of these lions have fur that matches sand, dirt, or some grasses which helps them to disguise themselves when hunting prey. This species uses sexual reproduction. They reproduce similar to the way humans reproduce. By the fertilization of the two united gametes.

Habitat:

They live in South Africa, southern Namibia, and southeastern Mozambique. They are herbivores. They eat zebras, buffalo, and warthogs. The Nile crocodile is the only predator other than humans that can threaten this species. I saw this lion in South Africa on a safari. I saw this lion on December, 12 2013.
