Field Notes

Description:

This moth is about 12mm long with creamy yellowish white markings along its back, dark brown flanks, fading to a lighter grey brown towards the rear third. At rest the wings form a tight neatly folded cylindrical shape. The rear tips of the wings form a distinctive fishtail appearance. The rear of the moth also turns sharply upwards when viewed from the side, which is not obvious in these photos. The antennae point straight forward when at rest and are narrow and segmented.

Habitat:

Found on the sill of an opened window overlooking a small urban garden
