Field Notes

Description:

Adenium obesum is a flowering succulent shrub or small tree in the dogbane family, Apocynaceae, that is native to the Sahel regions, south of the Sahara (from Mauritania and Senegal to Sudan), and tropical and subtropical eastern and southern Africa and Arabia. Its names include Sabi Star, Kudu, Mock Azalea, Impala Lily and Desert Rose.

In the Philippines, due to its resemblance to the related genus Plumeria, and the fact that it was introduced to the Philippines from Bangkok, Thailand, the plant is also called as Bangkok kalachuchi (calachuche) or simply Kalachuchi in Tagalog.

Habitat:

Backyard garden.
