Field Notes

Description:

Wing span of the butterfly is 67-80 mm. Yellow and black morphs. Black morph is rarely seen. Looks extremely like the eastern swallowtail just a lot smaller. Yellow with 4 "Tiger" stripes and on the underside of wings the yellow marginal band is continuous and orange scales on both morphs. species can hybridize eastern and western swallowtail but that also pretty rare.

Habitat:

Is found in most provinces in Canada, (like the name), and ranges from the Yukon - Quebec. Can also be found in northern states of the USA.
