Field Notes

Description:

A tiny owl that inhabits montane woodlands on the West Coast of North America. These owls are relatively easy to find, as they are quite vocal and hunt during the day. This sighting was an adult or two teaching four young how to hunt. At one point, one adult flew down and caught a fledgling Swainson's Thrush from the ground not 3 feet in front of me. The juveniles pictured here are pics 3 and 5.

Habitat:

Montane forests

Notes:

Due to the sensitivity of the sighting, the GPS point is not 100% accurate.
