Field Notes

Description:

The Barred Owl’s hooting call, “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you-all?” is a classic sound of old forests and treed swamps. But this attractive owl, with soulful brown eyes and brown-and-white-striped plumage, can also pass completely unnoticed as it flies noiselessly through the dense canopy or snoozes on a tree limb.

Habitat:

Originally a bird of the east, during the twentieth century it spread through the Pacific Northwest and southward into California.

Notes:

Stayed motionless while I took photos fom my vehicle. As soon as I moved forward it flew.

The above description and Habitat notes come from the internet.

Thanks for the suggestions folks, and this is my first time to spot one so close I could get a photo and I've been carrying a camera for 30+ years.
LOL! Ashely, right?! Don't mind our complaining Art3, this is an excellent spotting of a beautiful Barred owl! ...totally jealous!
I don't understand how people just find all these owls out in the open like this?? I'm so jealous, nice shots!
