Field Notes

Description:

Slim lizard. Bronze back. I have seen a similar one near my home in Kolkata, India but am not sure it is the same species in Sikkim.

Habitat:

The cracks in the stone wall of the leisure area of the resort we stayed in is home to 3-4 of these skinks. They have lots of food as plenty of insects visit the flowerbeds.

Notes:

The slightest movement; the littlest scare and they disappear...see last shot.

Thanks, Scott Frazier...I will check them out.
Apparently there are 4 skink species in Sikkim: Asymblepharus sikimmensis, Mabuya carinata, Sphenomorphus indicus and S. maculatus. ( http://sikenvis.nic.in/writereaddata/chapter13.pdf and http://sikkim.nic.in/sikkimroot/html/reptiles.pdf ). In my opinion it looks least like the first two listed species and most like Sphenomorphus...
