Field Notes

Description:

A colourful arctiidae moth. Black body with two yellow bands, with two blue bands between. Opaque black wings with yellow markings, with a splash of blue along the leading edge of the forewing.

Habitat:

Adjacent to a small stream. Altitude 900m.

Notes:

I suspect that this is a Javan sub-species, as it does not follow exactly the diagnosis offered by ‘Moths of Borneo’ (vol6). Chiefly, quote ‘There is a single, elongate yellow patch in the most posterior space of the forewing, indented posteriorly where that of the previous species is divided by a black band’. On this specimen the yellow band is bloken.

Nice one, Dave! Please, only add the binomial name in the scientific field. You might add all the other names in the description section. The updated taxonomy for yours would be Erebidae, Arctiinae, Arctiini, Euchromiina (as the subtribe).
