Field Notes

Description:

Pentatomidae; Eysarcorini; Eysarcoris ventralis (Westwood, 1837). This is a small Pentatomid and is identifiable by the two small white spots which are clearly visible in the ventral view (the only view you are likely to see, of this little bug). Its bronze coloured body is mostly covered in tiny punctures, giving it an overall mottled appearance. I was wondering why I could never get the head in sharp focus, like the rest of the body, because I did not realize, until I read in Wikipedia that the head is covered in tiny hairs. This is one of my favourite Pentatomids, but it shouldn't be, because it is quite a serious pest on our rice fields.

Habitat:

This White-spotted Stink Bug was spotted on unidentified foliage, growing along the edge of a rice field.
