Field Notes

Description:

We were exploring an island inhabited only by monks, full of wildlife I had never seen before, when the people I was walking with started singing. I was therefore loosing all hope of seeing whatsoever living organism when this beautiful beetle emerged from the trunk of dead tree. As it was very fast these were the best pictures I managed to take.

Habitat:

Dead tree in an untouched forest

Heartiest sympathies....totally understand. Have faced similar situations.
Yes it was terrible! Unfortunately I was with an organized group as on the island it was not possible to roam freely :)
Hahaha! I can imagine your frustration when your group started making noise! that's why for wildlife watching is best to go in very small groups (2-3 max) or even best to separate and go your own way. It reminds me of when I saw the quetzals in CR. There was a big group of tourists and some of them could not stop talking..of course they did not see a thing. In the moment they were gone and we (2 people) stayed behind without making noise the quetzals showed up :-)
