Cordyceps
Cordyceps gunnii
-38.4524, 144.914
Field Notes
Description:
The tallest cordyceps I have found at about 200mm.
Habitat:
Many of these in the immediate area. Very white sandy soil among bracken and small eucalyptus with the occasional banksia. Being a dedicated nature reserve I wasn't able to dig the victim out to identify.
Notes:
These are always associated with a particular species (larva) usually moths. I need to find the right mix of trees, soil etc. An initial guess would be some Hepialidae. It's likely that this is C.gunnii but they are most often found under mature acacia.
