Description:
The downy woodpecker is a small woodpecker often mistaken with the Hairy woodpecker. It is about 14 to 18 cm (5.5 to 7.1 in) in length.
Habitat:
It lives in woodland areas and can be seen in backyards and on trees in many parts of the United States.
Notes:
This one in particular was a female. This can be noticed by the lack of a red cap in the back part of the head which males have.
