Description:

A sprawling to semi-erect shrub with inconspicuous flowers and bright red fruit. The square stem is green with opposite toothed leaves. The flowers are green, or have a purplish or reddish tint.

Habitat:

Edges of moist woods and clearings.

Notes:

The leaves are eaten by deer, and it is common to find plants stripped of nearly all their leaves.
