Field Notes

Description:

The spider is perhaps a reddish brown. The diameter of its abdomen is about .5 centimeters. It builds an orb web but doesn't always wait at the center of the web. It can wait for prey trapped in the web under a tent-like structure knitted together from leaves, of which there is an overlap at the apex to keep water out. Under the leaf structure, it knits a webbing sleeve in which it waits. Between the sleeve and the web are connecting filaments from near the center of the web.

Habitat:

About 5 feet above the ground in the topmost branches of the nesting bushes.
