Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle pupa & eggs
Harmonia axyridis
35.1784, -80.8486
Field Notes
Description:
I don't know if these yellow elliptical group of eggs and this yellow chrysalis are from the same insect or not, but they were found only about 7 cm apart on the top side of a Red Oak leaf still on the tree even though others leaves have already fallen; the pupa was tiny only about 8 mm long; you can see metamorhphosis happening you can see the black post or cremaster where it attached itself to the leaf but it was not hanging down like others but rather lying on top of the leaf; you can also see what almost looks like a black fly and you can see what looks like fly legs - I think this must be the rumpled larval skin that the pupa is trying to get rid of
Habitat:
Red Oak tree on urban school grounds
