Description:

Could be either Panellus serotinas (late fall was when I found it) or Pleurotus ostreatus.

Habitat:

Deciduous riparian area in Northern Arizona.

The gills in Panellus serotinas are yellow (sometimes). There is a clear separation between the stem and the gills in Panellus serotinas that I don't see here. Another thing you can do is to taste it. Panellus serotinas is bitter as Pleurotus ostreatus is pleasant in taste.
Thanks for the suggestion. Based on shape, color and time of year I wondered also about Panellus serotinas?
