Field Notes

Description:

Brown upperparts, heavily speckled and dotted with white. Underparts are whitish, finely barred with dark brown bars. Tail is barred dark grey and white. Crown is darker brown. . Eyes are red. This one is a female.Speckled beauty. Brood parasite. On a fig tree. Shy and secretive. Sweet call.

Habitat:

Urban residential area. This fig tree was a bird magnet. It was growing in front of an abandoned house which became a den of all sorts of undesirable activities so people chopped down the tree and barricaded the house....there goes all my photo ops.

Thank you, Dawn D. Lopez Garanzuay...I begged them NOT to cut down the tree just chop it's top a bit if necessary...but.....pretty bird but nasty habit of shunning parental duties! Plays the mafia if the crows destroy its eggs!
