Field Notes

Notes:

A friend took me to an abandoned cave in western Massachusetts where he'd been monitoring the bats for a couple decades. There were 4 species of bats in there, with almost 6,000 individuals. A few years after this spotting, white nose disease was discovered in the northeast and the cave has been off limits since.

Looking at the multicolor fur and the pinkish forearms these photos are of a tri-colored bat (Perimyotis subflavus).
