Field Notes

Description:

Low to short plant flowering in the autumn before the leaves appear. Leaves 5-9, linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, hairless, glossy green and more or less erect, 15-25 cm long. Flowers bowl-shaped, 4-6 cm, varying from pinkish-lilac to deep rosy-purple, strongly chequered; tepals 5-6 cm long, not twisted; anthers purplish to brownish.

Habitat:

Rocky places and dryish grassy hillslopes, often in scrub.
