Field Notes

Description:

Cap; High convex; brown; largest, ca. 2.5-3 inches diameter; glossy; dry.
Gills. White; not attached to the stem; crowded.
Stem. White; largest, 3-4 inches long; ca, 3/8-1/2 inches diameter; slightly tapered from base to apex.

Habitat:

Growing in the shade of oak trees on a bale of wheat straw placed in a roadside ditch to prevent water erosion.

Notes:

These mushrooms were immature. The caps will become flat and the gills will turn flesh pink when mature.
