Description:
This tree has flowers and fruit. The flowers are about 2 cm long, and grow on the bark of the tree. The flowers are white/yellow. The fruit is the shape of an oval, and it is about 11 cm tall. The outer coat is hard, but it is covered in a cotton-like material. The leaf shape is ovate and elliptical, and grows up to 31 cm long, and 11 cm wide in a subopposite leaf arrangement. The leaf margins are entire, but a little sinuate, and the leaf venation is netted pinnate. The leaf is waxy, deeply creased, with large veins and a drip tip. The bark is furrowed and rough, with a buttress root system.
Habitat:
This tree is growing in a secondary rainforest, a few meters away from any other trees.
Notes:
The cacao tree can grow up to 15 meters in height, and it needs a lot of rain and a stable temperature (21-32 degrees). The cacao tree is an Amazonian tree from Central America.
