The outer coat is hard, but it is covered in a cotton-like material. The leaf shape is ovate and elliptical, and grows up to 31 cm long, and 11 cm wide in a subopposite leaf arrangement. The leaf margins are entire, but a little sinuate, and the leaf venation is netted pinnate. The leaf is waxy, deeply creased, with large veins and a drip tip. The bark is furrowed and rough, with a buttress root system.
