Field Notes

Description:

An 8 mm moth with glittering zones of rainbow colours. The wings were tented with fringed trailing margins curving slightly inwards.. Antennae were long and filamentous.

Habitat:

Spotted feeding on flowers on a Kunzea plant - Glenfern Valley Bushland Reserve.
Occurrence: Found from southern Queensland to Victoria and Tasmania.

Notes:

A very exciting find for me. The moth is small but amazingly attractive.
It is believed that the larvae of these moths probably feed on Bursaria spinosa (box thorn) as pupal cases have been found inside seed pods of the plant.
Family: Adelidae
