Field Notes

Description:

This butterfly was spotted making very short flights, close to the ground. It was landing on the leaf litter and resting for just a few seconds before making another attempt to get into the air. As soon as I got close enough, to take this photo, I saw the problem. Its right wings were in reasonably good condition, but both the forewing and hindwing on the left side were severely damaged.

Habitat:

This butterfly was spotted in the rice mill front yard, resting in the leaf litter.

Notes:

Butterflies of the Subfamily Danainae are well documented in Philippine Lepidoptera and I think this is the first time that I have been unable to identify one. This butterfly looks like it belongs to the Danainae, but I am beginning to suspect that I am looking in the wrong place.
