Field Notes

Description:

Saw this Otter (not sure of exact species) during a home stay in Sandakan.
This are wild Otters, but the owner of the House I was staying at, will throw out some fishes in the morning to feed the Otters. There were 2 of them, although they were comfortable to come and get the fishes, but also very cautious.

Habitat:

Found in coastal areas and on larger inland rivers, solitary or in groups.

Notes:

While looking up for the exact species of this Otter, I came across a website mentioning a species of Otter, Hairy-nosed Otter (Lutra sumatrana) which can also be found in Sabah was previously thought to be extinct but recently re-discovered in Sabah, Deramakot Forest Reserve.
