Field Notes

Description:

A very streaked breast with a brown back and head. There are two stripes on the head, and the female still has the red shoulder patch like the male does.

Habitat:

They are found throughout North America in marshy and grassland areas. They prefer areas with cattails. This was actually the first one I had ever seen in this thorn scrub habitat.

Notes:

In Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Thanks! I actually didn't know what this was when I saw it, and was kind of upset to learn it was just a red-winged blackbird. I thought she was so pretty, was hoping it was a new bird for me!
