Field Notes

Description:

So named because when the leaf tip of the parent plant makes contact with the soil it forms a plantlet, creating a walking effect. Although, as the third photo shows, they may form without soil contact, as I found a few of them dangling in the air.

Habitat:

Appalachian mountains

And I have to find and post my olde photos from Natural Bridge.
I will be back up there later this month, will try to get you some photos of the sori ;)
I love walking fern! Their sori are great: they look like sprinkles on a doughnut. Great spotting! I have severe outdoors envy. :)
