Description:
This species has white forewings with orange hindwings.The face has black slightly feathery antennae.The legs are striped white and black with the thorax hairs having white and orange.This specimen was a male and was bred.
Habitat:
Semi-urban, Fort Worth, Texas.This one with others were bred indoors on Henbit dead nettle that is a common Texas weed.The habitat for this generation was a grassy field where I found some caterpillars around mid-November.
Notes:
This species is found throughout North America and parts of Africa and Central America.Male specimen bred on Henbit dead nettle.About a 40 mm. Wingspan with a length of 30 mm.This moth has a gland that can secrete Alkaloids, that is a yellow toxic substance that they sequester from the host plants.
