Field Notes

Description:

Ball flower or Globe daisy is a small and discreet but hardy perennial plant, some 15-20cm tall, and up to 30 wide. It produces a rosette of leathery spathulate leaves, bearing bright blue spherical flowerheads on leafy erect stems.

Habitat:

Found on and around rocks, just next to a pathway through rocky escarpment in Jura mountain range. This spot bears little vegetation, but it is surrounded by a magnificent mixed forest, common on Jura slopes.

Notes:

I'm not really sure as to which family Globe daisies belong, and am finding it mentioned in Plantaginaceae or Globulariaceae families...
