Description:

Unidentified medium bodied wasp with a velvety orange abdomen.

Habitat:

Spotted in a large semi-urban yard & garden situated next to a disturbed patch of remnant forest.

Thanks Phil S for the suggestion. I looked at the images and while it may be Anterhynchium sp., I don't think it is "that" Anterhynchium sp. This is owing to the fact that "mine" has a more constricted first/black abdominal segment with the abdomen being (American) football-shaped. The specimen from Australia has a tapered but more cylindrical abdomen. I consulted the Checklist of Vespid Species Occurring in the Indonesian Archipelago which listed four Anterhynchium sp. for Papua. I only found images for two of the species and they had yellow patches on them...
