Description:

A hawk of the North, the Rough-legged Hawk breeds in Arctic tundra and taiga regions around the northern hemisphere. Both dark and light forms are common, with many birds intermediate between the extremes.

Well, come on out y'all! ...or we should all just go on a big birding road-trip! Next on my list to visit is AZ! I want to photograph Harris hawks, black hawks and zone-tailed hawks so bad! and Ashley, I am LMAO! I was joking about "herping" so...this makes my day that is is actually what they call it! What is the CSC? I really like all animals, so I would be down for some herp training! My goal this spring and summer is to photograph some of my true loves - wild canines. Swift foxes this spring hopefully! fingers crossed!

Emily, this series is great!! I think something happened to his tail because it's only 1/2 missing (you can see it in my pics)...they don't molt like that!! and he's got a feather askew in one of my pics. Ashley and Joshua, it would be great to have you visit! I know nothing about finding herps...but I think it would be fun!

I think if I can manage to make it to Colorado, then Joshua needs to come too and we can all bird together! And yes Emily, it is called herping :) If you start saying it in public though, you should expect weird looks. I'm used to the looks now haha. The director of the CSC lives in Colorado, I bet he would be glad to take you and Christy out sometime and teach y'all more about herps and how to find them, or he gives talks a lot at local places. Would be pretty cool!

Thanks Josh! Winter in CO is hit or miss, however, we usually get more sun than not! Christy and I live near each other and volunteer together! It's nice to go out with a friend that has a common interest and knowledge!

Oh that would be fun! A PN field trip perhaps! We'll have to make it down to TX sometime too! What do you call it when you go out looking for reptiles? ...herping...no, that doesn't sound right! Either way, that would be fun too! ;)

Yes! We went out together! She's my bird'n buddy! :) This is the same bird with the missing feathers. I can only assume that he/she was molting. There didn't appear to be any damage otherwise (although hard to tell!) Thanks for look'n!
