Field Notes

Description:

Some type of Katydid? A green insect similar in some ways to a grasshopper that can fly

Habitat:

Along a mowed trail surrounded by woods but with fresh water within 1/2 a city block away. Lake Emma Trail before it meets up to the new bike trail where there's a slight clearing in the woods with various milkweed plants and other wildflowers growing

Notes:

I know these guys are on the dinner menu for Bluebirds. I've also found them near the Lake Blanche Trail in an open field of native prairie grasses where wildflowers are found, in a similar habitat situation only in this area its much smaller of an opening with less prairie field flora present
