Description:

Male - look closely at the antennae, there are two segments near the tip which appear to be reddish, which according to the reference field link is an indicator of male violacea only.

Habitat:

Meadow on rocky headland.

Thank you armadeus.4, having read a few pages and looked closely at the pictures I can see 2 reddish segments on the antennae which correspond to a male violacea so your help would seem to have wrapped it up. Thank you James for your comment.

I think this is a Carpenter Bee - the genus Xylocopa in the subfamily Xylocopinae (Wiki) - (image compared to the ones in these links: http://www.capper-online.de/Travel/Iberia/html/gallery.htm - https://www.inaturalist.org/taxa/124145-Xylocopa-violacea) ...hope this helps :)
