Field Notes

Description:

Neriidae; Stelostylinus sp. I spotted some of these Banana Stalk Flies, a few days ago, on our vegetable plot where they were making a pretty good job of damaging our Sponge Gourd (Luffa acutangula). That crop (or rather, what was left of it) has now been harvested. So, these little guys just dispersed to other parts of the backyard. They never seem to have a problem finding something on the menu that they like. One minute, it's fresh vegetables and the next, rotting wood. No problem!

Habitat:

Spotted in our backyard on an old decaying branch, used as a plant prop.
