Description:

Only two species of Skinks in California, Western and Gilbert's. The Skilton's is one the subspecies in California. In the adult stage the Western will develop a blue tail and Gilbert's a Red. In the juvenile stage they look almost identical. In the Western the stripes will extend into the tail where the Gilbert's will not.
These lizards have a brown stripe down the center of it's back and two white to beige stripes with a border of black along the upper sides. The stripes extend from the face to the tail.

Habitat:

Found among rocks above a small lake in the hills

Notes:

Very shy, and when it spotted me it returned to the rocks. After a while when the sun out from some clouds it reappeared and quickly took the shots.
