Field Notes

Description:

I was delighted by this very cute moth's visit to my room last night.

What I found most incredible about this beautiful guest is that the black spots AREN'T distributed symmetrically on the two wings!

Notes:

Any help with the ID will be appreciated.

Hello dcslaugh, nice to have you!! Glad that you liked the line. Yes, we are! Thanks for the appreciation. Nature is always beautiful and is never short of miracles to amaze us! :):)
Thanks, Sukanya, for the help. It matters a lot. The genus contains many moths sharing a very similar morphology with this one. Wish it gets identified soon. :):)
In response to the statement on your profile page, Yes, we are all a family! And nice peacock eye profile photo!
I saw a similar (not identical) species in Sikkim recently; nearest lookalikes (for both the Sikkim and the Kerala moths are Buff Ermine moths...Spilosoma sp. Similar not exact matches, though. I am still looking. Sorry, this is the nearest I have got. PN has a Kerala moth mission. Good luck with your ID.
