Description:
It is a small pierid butterfly species, simply known as "the grass yellow" in parts of its range; the general term otherwise refers to the entire genus Eurema. The butterfly is mostly yellow, the ventral side is plain yellow but it could also have brown spots or markings as the species is highly variable, the one I spotted has barely any brown markings but I've seen some that has more pronounced markings. The dorsal side of the wings is also plain yellow but with deep brown edge or border on the forewing. The genus Eurema is quite diverse with several species looking alike, this one is Eurema hecabe because of the distinct brown outline it has at the dorsal side of the forewing at photo no. 2.
Habitat:
The first four photos is a separate spotting compared to the last two photos. The first specimen I found resting on an Oakleaf fern at night, the second one was spotted on the ground at daylight Feb.10 2022. Found in Asia, Africa and Australia. They are found flying close to the ground and are found in open grass and scrub habitats.
