Field Notes

Description:

Just a little over 1/4 inch (6.35 mm). A large orange with black spots coccinellid beetle with 0 to 22 spots. This one 19 spots. Aka Japanese ladybug. Releases defense chemical. Helpful to control aphid population, however, it is harmful to grapes. Hibernates during winter months; active 50 degrees and up. Finds way into homes.
