Description:

Here a Montagu's Harrier is seen scanning the grasslands in search for its food mainly small rodents, birds and locusts. They hover mid air when hunting to detect prey species by the noises they produce and plan their dive!

Habitat:

Velavadar National Park has an exclusive grassland habitat. The golden grasslands extend uniformly, interspersed with dry thorny scrub. Harriers are widespread winter visitors in India and are known to roost communally.
The major communal roost site in India is Velavadar National Park,
Gujarat (the world’s largest Harrier roost, 3000 birds).
